KU chaplaincy CWA hosts the 2023 Ruaraka Deanery Maria Goretti Day Celebrations

The Kenyatta University Catholic Women Association (CWA), one of the groups in our church hosted Ruaraka Deanery CWA members for the Maria Goretti Day celebrations on Saturday the 15th of July 2023. The celebration was attended by over 500 CWA members from all the parishes in the Deanery. The day’s program started with Rosary prayers at 8 a.m. at the Grotto followed by Holy mass at 8:30 a.m. celebrated by our Chaplain Rev. Fr. Boniface Kariuki. Father gave a good homily and took time to educate us on the life of St. Maria Goretti who died at the tender age of 11 years after being stabbed 14 times on refusal to break her virginity. His homily focused on Forgiveness, Hard work, and Love. The KU chaplaincy CWA under the leadership of the moderator Dr. Lucy Kathuri-Ogola, led the other parishes to animate mass through singing and dancing which made the celebration very vibrant and zestful.

After mass, the KU chaplaincy moderator welcomed the Ruaraka deanery CWA members to Kenyatta University Christ the Teacher Church (KUCC). This was followed by remarks by the Deanary moderator Priscilla Muiga who introduced the deanery officials present and welcomed the members to the talk of the day whose theme was

Self Care, Self Love, Self Worth…A woman of Dignity in church. The talk was facilitated by Mrs Christine Gachure, M.Ed. Educational Counselor/ Leadership Consultant, a staunch Catholic from St. Teresa of the Child Jesus – Kalimoni, Nairobi. The talk encouraged the women to take good care of themselves as they continue to take care of their families and other society members. The members were taken through the 7 pillars of self-care – Mental, Emotional, Physical, Environmental, Spiritual, Recreational, and Social. After the enriching talk the KU chaplaincy officials- Janet Njau (Vice Moderator), Celestine Mutai (Secretary), Virginia Mutheu (Vice Secretary), and Dr. Jennifer Njaramba (Treasurer) were introduced by the moderator. Subsequently, the Deanery Vice Secretary, Mary Nduta moved the vote of thanks and commended the KU chaplaincy CWA and the entire KUCC fraternity led by Fr. Boniface for planning, coordinating, and hosting a successful Maria Goretti day. Thereafter, the MC of the day Mrs. Caroline Magoma (a KU chaplaincy CWA member) made announcements and the celebration ended at 1:05 p.m. with closing remarks and blessings by Fr. Kariuki.
