Parting shot for the academic year 2025/2026!

Shalom shalom shalom!
The Lord has been gracious and merciful throughout this semester and indeed during the academic year. We have seen and experienced the love of God not only at Christ the Teacher Chaplaincy but in the entire Kenyatta University. The year began well with a new cohort of students enrolling in our premier university in August 2025. However, this was interrupted by the industrial action of the lecturers through the Universities Academic Staff Union which lasted for seven weeks. Needless to say learning was affected with the first semester going on until February 2026. The second semester which is now ending kicked off at the beginning of March 2026. We thank God that at last the learners are able to complete their academic year albeit taking a long time.
Despise this at the chaplaincy the Kenyatta University Catholic Community (KUCC) we continued with our activities with many students attending and being assisted spiritually, emotionally and socially. The students attended daily and Sunday Mass, confessions, guidance & counselling and experienced moments of quiet prayer at the Marian Grotto and in the Adoration Chapel. Catechumens have been guided by Catechist Francis to understand the Catholic faith better in readiness for reception of the sacraments.
The students attended to their Small Christian Communities (jumuiya) weekly meetings and were able to pray together and plan for charity and team building activities. This enhanced their cohesion and commitment to the catholic faith which is going to leave an indelible mark in their lives.
Through the generosity of the parishioners, majority being students we have been able to have a welfare kitty. From which we have assisted needy KU students with food and offset some of their fees arrears.
This semester saw us participate actively in two inter-faith prayer services. One in January to bid farewell to the immediate former Vice Chancellor, Prof Paul Wainaina which was graced by Most Rev, Anthony Muheria Archbishop of Nyeri. The other one was in May in thanksgiving for the end of the academic year and praying for exams organized by the university chaplains domiciled at the Directorate of Student Affairs.
At the conclusion of the academic year I wish all the members of the KUCC safety as they travel to their homes. Those who will be going for industrial attachment I wish them success. For the members going for the missionary outreach to Lodwar and Marsabit dioceses I wish them a fruitful apostolate.
“Peace is not a product of terror or fear. Peace is not the silence of cemeteries. Peace is the generous contribution of all to the good of all.” — St. Oscar Romero
And may the Queen of Peace, our Mother Mary, intercede for us all the time.
I wish the KUCC members a fruitful, grace-filled, and peaceful holiday.
May Christ the Teacher… Deepen our Faith!
Fr. Boniface Kariuki
Chaplain
