CLC Kenyatta University: A Year of Faith, Growth, and Service
CLC is Home?
(response; I am a clcer)
The Christian Life Community (CLC) at Kenyatta University has experienced a remarkable year of spiritual formation, community building, and impactful service. Rooted in Ignatian spirituality and guided by the motto “Go forth and set the world on fire and Ad Majoriem dei Gloriam (For the greater glory of God,” our community has grown in faith and mission, inviting students to find God in all aspects of university life.
Throughout the year, our weekly community meetings served as the heartbeat of CLC-KU, creating space for faith sharing, Gospel reflection, and communal prayer every Thursday evening. These gatherings became a spiritual home for students seeking meaningful faith community on campus.
Our formation journey extended beyond campus through several transformative initiatives. Members participated in Nairobi Area formations at St. Aloysius Gonzaga, connecting with the wider CLC family and deepening their understanding of Ignatian spirituality. The KU-UoN joint formation-built bridges between our community and CLC University of Nairobi, fostering collaboration and shared learning. A standout moment was the three-day joint formation at University of Eldoret an intensive retreat that brought together students from different campuses for prayer, discernment, and community building, creating memories and spiritual growth that will last a lifetime.

Our commitment to faith-in-action was powerfully expressed through the Mazingira Afya Project, our flagship environmental initiative inspired by Pope Francis’s Laudato Si’. Youth-led and mission-driven, this program brought CLC members to Kibera for community clean-ups and sensitization campaigns, demonstrating our dedication to caring for our common home and serving vulnerable communities.

The year was also marked by joyful celebration and fellowship. Our Christmas Party and World CLC Day at St. Aloysius Gonzaga was a festive gathering of unity and gratitude, while the team building day at KU Arboretum strengthened bonds through games, laughter, and shared meals. The retreat at Carmelite Community provided a sacred space for silent prayer, spiritual direction, and personal renewal away from academic pressures.

Leadership development was a key focus, highlighted by the Ignatian Leadership Training conducted by Fr. George Macharia, S.J. This empowering training equipped members with servant leadership skills rooted in Ignatian principles—teaching discernment, community building, and mission-driven decision-making.

The year culminated in group elections, where new leaders were prayerfully chosen and commissioned to guide CLC KU into the next chapter. We are grateful for the dedication of outgoing leaders and excited for the future under new leadership.
