The Parable of the Sower: Preparing Our Hearts for God’s Word
This Sunday’s Gospel from Matthew 13:1–23 presents the Parable of the Sower, where Jesus teaches that the Word of God bears fruit according to the condition of our hearts. Just as seeds fall on different types of soil, God’s Word is received differently by each person. Some hearts are distracted, others lose faith when challenges arise, while some allow worldly concerns to overshadow the Gospel. Yet those who receive God’s Word with faith, understanding, and perseverance become like good soil, bearing abundant fruit.
In his homily, Fr. Boniface Kariuki invited the faithful to reflect on the kind of soil they have become. He encouraged the congregation to cultivate hearts that are open to God’s Word through prayer, the Sacraments, and a life of discipleship. The homily reminded us that hearing the Gospel is not enough—we are called to live it each day so that our lives may bear fruits of love, service, and holiness.
As members of the Christ the Teacher Catholic Community, may we continually prepare our hearts to receive God’s Word, allowing it to transform us and inspire us to become faithful witnesses of Christ in our families, workplaces, and society.
