Before setting foot in the deep fields of Marsabit, as I pack my bags, my primary expectation for the mission as I step out is transforming humanitarian journey into a deeply spiritual calling. I look forward to serving, learning, spiritual growth, interacting and sharing the love of Christ with the local community .
I expect to face an intensely hot and arid environment, navigating vast distances across rugged terrain and unpaved roads to reach mobile populations. I expect relentless heat that warps the air, punctuated by sudden, fierce winds whipping off Lake Turkana.
I am preparing myself for a social landscape governed by patience and protocol. I expect to spend the first hours of each day drinking water to stay hydrated in the extreme heat. I anticipate the conversations will always circle back to health, livestock and water availability. I know I will struggle with the language barrier, majorly relying on hurried translations ,but I expect the real communication to happen through nonverbal cues.
But above all ,I look forward to sharing pure, happy moments ,expecting my heart to be filled with contagious joy of Marsabit people, heartwarming smiles of children and fulfilment of serving together. This breakthroughs of joy will serve as a beautiful reminder of celebration of God’s love.
By undertaking this outreach, I’m steering my mind for the emotional turmoil, serving some of Kenya’s most resilient yet marginalized communities.
I am grateful for this opportunity and this journey is not just about delivering temporary relief; it’s about fostering trust, respecting a rich way of life and making a tangible lasting impact on the lives of those I will be privileged to serve.
