Come to Me and I Will Give You Rest: Reflection on the Sunday Gospel and Homily
This Sunday’s Gospel from Matthew 11:25–30 presents to us one of the most comforting invitations from Jesus:
“Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
In a world marked by pressure, uncertainty, fatigue, and the weight of daily struggles, Christ gently calls each one of us to come to Him. He reminds us that true rest is not found merely in the absence of work or problems, but in a living relationship with Him. Jesus reveals the heart of the Father to the humble and the simple, showing us that God’s love is made known not through pride or self-sufficiency, but through openness, trust, and faith.
In his homily, Fr. Boniface Kariuki reflected on the tenderness of Christ, who does not burden us further but instead offers peace, healing, and hope to all who are weary. He encouraged the faithful to surrender their worries, fears, and struggles to the Lord, who is gentle and humble of heart. In taking up the yoke of Christ, we are not crushed by life’s burdens; rather, we are strengthened by His grace and guided by His love.
The Gospel is a reminder that no burden is too heavy for God, no heart too troubled for His comfort, and no life too broken for His restoration. As a Christian community, we are invited to trust more deeply in Christ, to walk with Him daily, and to find in Him the peace that the world cannot give.
May this message encourage us to draw closer to Jesus in prayer, especially in moments of exhaustion, confusion, and hardship, knowing that in Him we shall find rest for our souls.
